Pet Adoptions On DemandComcast’s new “Get Local” section of its video-on-demand service On Demand offered a unique opportunity for the cable company to partner with the Humane Society of Berks County to promote the adoption of shelter animals.  At least once each month and sometimes twice, 15 dogs and cats are featured on Comcast’s Pet Adoptions On Demand service that is available free to Digital Cable customers.  The number of viewers has more than doubled in four months and Pet Adoptions is now the second most-watched On Demand program Comcast offers, and  ninety percent of the pets profiled to date found new homes.

Focus on LouisianaBetween May and October 2007, Cox Greater Louisiana aired a new cable-exclusive series, “Focus on Louisiana,” to inform Louisiana voters about critical issues facing the state in time for the historic, statewide 2007 elections. Against the noisy backdrop of broadcast TV, attack ads and partisan politics, Cox “changed the channel” and presented a 13-episode, fact-based, non-partisan, commercial-free series with experts examining the issues. Unique partnerships with the Council for a Better Louisiana, Suddenlink, Charter and Cox New Orleans lent instant credibility to the series and more than doubled its reach from Greater Louisiana’s 311,000 subscribers to 731,000 households statewide. The shows earned remarkable statewide press coverage and an extraordinary series of editorials from the Baton Rouge Advocate, Louisiana’s largest newspaper.

Scholarships on DemandEducation is a critical element to a person’s success, but figuring out how to afford a college education can be puzzling.  To help guide parents and students through the financial aid maze, Comcast’s Maryland/Delaware/Richmond Region developed Scholarships On Demand, a new local video on demand series designed to provide access to local community organizations offering resources and scholarships that help supplement the cost of paying for a college education.  This unique programming series offered students, parents, and community partners an opportunity they couldn’t find anywhere else in Maryland.  Scholarships On Demand provided a valuable public service for Comcast customers while strengthening relationships with community partners and showcasing Comcast’s Video On Demand technology.

Metro Beat TVComcast MetroBeat TVis a collaborative, pilot project undertaken by Comcast and 25 greater Denver Metropolitan Area communities.  Its goal is to look beyond current television models in exploring how cable technology can be used in new and innovative ways to address the unique needs of local communities and increase the value of community programming to citizens on a regional level.  MetroBeat TV was launched in November 2005.  It currently comprises four viewer-designed television programs that air monthly in 450,000 homes, a dedicated MetroBeat TV website, and 24/7 access via video-on-demand technology.  Quality and relevance define the mission of MetroBeat TV.

mtvU Half of Us SeriesAs part of its Half of Us mental health campaign, mtvU broadcast three, commercial-free, half-hour specials featuring Mary J. Blige, Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy, and Max Bemis of Say Anything, revealing their personal struggles with mental health issues, including depression, bipolar disorder, and suicidal thoughts.  From the first indications they had a problem, to their darkest moment, and finally to their recovery, this series of personal stories was an extension of the peer-to-peer sharing the campaign embraces.  The overall campaign has reached more than 9 million students on-air and online with normalizing messages about mental health, provided a clear connection to local resources, and supported its audience in a time of crisis.
