TCI Transition to Cox Communications
Contact: Sue Hutchison \ 602-866-0072
The local transition from TCI to Cox Communications affected 63,000 TCI
subscribers and
125 TCI employees. From the beginning, Cox set out to successfully
integrate TCI employees
into the new system through comprehensive communications. Tactics
included establishing a
hotline for anonymous inquiries by TCI and Cox employees, with
answers to these questions published in weekly newsletters. The Cox
transition team also met personally with TCI leadership
and employees. A party was held to welcome new employees into the
Cox family, an additional
opportunity for new employees to meet the Cox management. Along with
orientations, a Cox
human resource representative was on-site at the TCI Scottsdale
headquarters for 10 days
after the trade.

Widening Our World by One (or WOW By One) is an employee extension
of other community
affairs initiatives provided by MediaOne. The initiative provides
students, educators and
parents with the technology skills necessary for the future. Through
the program, employees
adopt a classroom and provide volunteer assistance to teachers.
Their time translates into
earned money which goes toward the purchase of
technology equipment, training, or software
for the school of their choice. The project is
administered through the US WEST Foundation.
In the first 10 weeks, over 800 employees have registered in the
program - reaching more than
20,000 students across the country.
